Print proof of approximately half a page, 11 lines, 120 x 210 mm., containing some handwritten corrections by Alessandro Manzoni. A different but contemporary hand indicates that it is an "autograph of Alessandro Manzoni". The corrections concern chapter XXIX of The Betrothed.
Specialist Notes
In the first correction Manzoni notices a short repetition, - infame - fama, and replaces this second term with 'praise' in the left margin. The same happens for the subsequent correction, where he can't stand the repetition this - this and replaces the second term with 'this'. Interesting linguistic philological piece that sheds light on an aspect of Manzoni's corrective practice, aimed at eliminating repetitions of short-term terms.
