Specialist Notes

Third Italian edition of one of the most important texts on the Netherlands of the 16th century written by Lodovico Guicciardini (Florence 1521-Antwerp 1589). This is the first detailed description of the provinces and cities with numerous geographical maps and city views, the same tables also present in the French edition of 1582, with the exception of the plan of Antwerp which has undergone slight modifications (the bastions of the city were rebuilt in 1585). As in the French edition, in this one too the plates were printed separately so that future owners of the book could decide where to place them.
