Venice, Bernardino Stagnino, 1512 to XXIIII Nouembrio. In 4th, 217 x 155 mm. Frontispiece in red and black, in the center image of St. Bernardino of Siena with radiant disk with monogram of Christ IHS and miter at bottom and top, within frame, variant A according to Edit16, full-page illustration at the opening of the first Cantica with Dante in three different poses next to Virgil and the three wild beasts, 98 woodcut illustrations in the text, restorations in the margins of the first and last leaves, marginal halos, tear on p.55 without loss, small wormholes in the internal margins of some leaves, in the overall a good copy, coeval full leather binding with dry impressions, spine redone, 13th century parchment sheets applied inside on the backing plates. with Christian ritual.  

Specialist Notes

Good genuine copy of this edition elegantly printed in Venice, the first of those printed by Stagnino. The text follows the Aldine edition of 1502 edited by Bembo with the addition of the Commentary by Cristoforo Landino and the corrections by Fra' Pietro da Figino, already published in 1491. The woodcuts are based on those of the 1491 edition.
