SEARCHED EDITION, partly compiled starting from the works of previous theorists of perspective, in particular from Dürer's Unterweysung der Messung (published in German in 1525 and in Latin in 1532). The three large landscape cuts that show the decorations of the theater are copied from the illustrations of the first quarto edition of Serlio's De architecture (Venice: 1566); other plates and the description of Dürer's “instrument for drawing in perspective” (2A2r) derive from his Unterweysungand from Barbaro's edition of Vitruvius (Venice, 1567). Among the original woodcuts of this work there are a full-page engraving of a new type of measuring instrument invented by Giacomo Fusto Castriotto (2A4r) and the suggestive three-dimensional ornaments of the headers. This edition is known in several issues: this example has the title dated 1568 and the colophon 1569; the woodcut initial ''S'' on V2r depicting a swordsman on horseback.
