First state of this splendid map depicting St. Paul's travels throughout the eastern Mediterranean, based on various sources. The title scroll is flanked by two biblical visions including the shipwreck of the Apostle Paul in Malta. At the bottom is a scripture verse from St. Paul's letters (Corinthians, 2:5). The Mediterranean Sea is highlighted by a pair of sea monsters and sailing ships.
