Specialist Notes

First edition of this interesting treatise on communication through hand gestures and finger positions compiled by the famous Spanish Jesuit Vicente Requeno y Vivès (Calatorao, Zaragoza, 1743 - Tivoli, 1811). The text is divided into two parts: the first describes the use of hands to communicate numbers, especially in antiquity, while the second part focuses on the use of hands in the theatrical world. A brilliant and versatile figure, Requeno y Vivès spends his life between Spain and Italy dedicating himself to archeology (he was a disciple of Winckelmann), numismatics, philosophy and chironomy, he was also an eccentric inventor.< div>
