Specialist Notes

Apothecary and established naturalist, Ferrante Imperato (Naples 1525 - 1615?), became famous for his famous naturalistic "museum". The museum collected a large number of objects belonging to the three kingdoms, animal, vegetable and mineral (stuffed animals, mirabilia, fossils, stones and gems, earths, juices, essences, perfumes, oils, inks, plants and dried herbs, seeds and more ), a certain amount of italiania, collected as related to the world of nature, the scientific correspondence of the I. and finally, a gallery of portraits of famous scientists. We also know, from some sources, that live animals were also welcomed into the museum (at least one ichneumon and a turtle). A wunderkammer in perfect Kircherian style.
