With 93 (of 94) plates numbered out of text of which 7 folded, numbered I-XXIV, I-XXXV, I-XVI, I-IX (the IX "Picturae antiquae in aedibus Marchionis de Maximis is missing "), headers and large engraved initials, some water stains and light browning, white lower margin of some pages worn, coeval parchment binding with title embossed in gold within a label on the spine with 6 raised bands, some stains on boards, edges damaged , three compartments of the back partially detached. Ancient hand notations on endpaper.

Second edition published in Latin (the first edition in Latin is from 1738). With texts by antiquarians from La Chausse (1655 ca. - 1724) and Giovanni Pietro Bellori (1613 -1696) and engravings by Bartoli, it represents an important source for knowledge of wall decorations from the Roman era.
