Woodcut frieze on the title page, woodcut headers and finials, sporadic flourishes and small marginal gaps, gap at the lower outer corner of the title page with a small tear, tear on fol. Q7, small defects on the spine, original leather binding, gold decorations on the spine and leather label with gold title, red edges. On the front pastedown ex libris with coat of arms.
First rare edition of this treatise on perfumes and cosmetics by the French chemist and distiller Antoine Hornot, on the title page with the name of Déjean, his pseudonym. The treatise describes smells, perfumes, essential oils, creams and other cosmetic products; following this first publication, the treatise had several other editions.
