Venice, printed by Giambatista Albrizzi, 1745. In folio. [20] chalcographic plates within rich decorative frames, 20 headings within cartouches that enclose the subject of the song and 20 chalcographic figured initials at the beginning of each song, [20] finials (of which 6 full page), on the corner title page  top missing, tear on a sheet that does not damage the writing mirror, sheet 14 omitted in the numbering as in all specimens,  original binding in sponged calfskin on the back with 5 raised bands, gusset  in red morocco with author and title, floral friezes, red cuts, in the compartments, peeling and slight defects. On the front pastedown ex libris by Paul Wallraf.    

Specialist Notes

The splendid plates, a masterpiece of rococo graphics, were engraved by Felice Polanzani based on drawings by Giovanni Battista Piazzetta (1683-1754i. In our example, the portrait is that of Maria Theresa as an old woman. Cohen-Ricci, 978; Brunet V, 666; Tassiana Bergamo, 261: «This is undoubtedly the most ornate and magnificent ed. and does great credit to the city ofi Venezia»; Choix, 18734.
