Louvre; Jules Didot Ainé, 1827. In foil. With 72 plates engraved on copper based on the authors' original drawings, usual foxing and browning due to the type of paper, coeval binding mz. leather, tit. and gold decorations on the back. 


Specialist Notes

"There are 72 plates full of all sorts of very elegant drawings, taken from the ancient world, and combined with infinite taste, and executed with the utmost precision and accompanied by a succinct and very clear text, a work useful for any sort of art " (Cicognara). Fundamental work on interior decorations, which contributed to the diffusion of the Empire Style throughout the world. Charles Percier (1764-1838) and Pierre Fontaine (1762-1853) were commissioned by Napoleon to decorate his apartments in the Louvre, the Tuileries and those in La Malmaison for the Empress Joséphine. They were the main inspirers of the Empire style and received, in 1810, the Architecture Grand Prix for "L'arc  de trionphe du Carousel".
