Specialist Notes

Carlo Carrà (Quargneto, 1881 - Milan, 1966) adhered to futurism from 1909 to 1915, to then devote himself to metaphysical painting. In this period he began to experiment with dynamic images not only limited to giving the sensation of movement, but destined, through colour, to eliminate the fixed law of gravity of bodies. His only futurist book, which is also his last futurist experience, is "Guerrapittura", from 1915, a collage of "words in freedom" with which he supports the anti-German and anti-imperialist interventionist movement and lashes out, with rather violent language, against the church, socialists in general and in particular against that intellectual and political movement which supported the triple alliance. See Salaris, History, p. 76; Cammarota, Futurism, 88.1.
