A keen observer and careful and curious investigator, the Discalced Carmelite father Vincenzo Maria di Santa Caterina da Siena, born Antonio Murchio (1626 - 1679), was sent with his brothers to southern India in 1656 to inspect Catholic missions for the purpose of re-establish Christian unity compromised by divisions and disorders. The travel report is a highly appreciated work for its vastness, richness, precision of descriptions, abundance of curiosities and information.
