Information

Paris, Maradan, 1789. In 8th. 2 vols. Small eyes, woodcut friezes, very light browning, sporadic and slight blooms, coeval binding in marbled calfskin, plates framed by frame, initials surmounted by a crown embossed in gold in the center of the plates, title within a smooth spine, small lacks and defects on the backs and hinges, some slight abrasion, slightly loose front plate. Paper ex libris on the counterplate.

Specialist Notes

First edition of this interesting treatise on education, free trade, natural law. Written on the inspiration of Carl Friedrich of Baden, and therefore of Dupont de Nemours. The specimen has a B on the plates surmounted by a princely crown. Probable gift not of the Margrave (it is not a crown of the Holy Roman Empire) but of his son, the crown prince Carl Ludwig (1755-1801).
