Specialist Notes

First edition of the masterpiece by the great engraver and landscape painter Giuseppe Vasi (1710-1782). The result of almost two decades of work, it is a journey back in time along the streets, squares and glimpses of Rome, in the company of carriages and costumed figures. Vasi, originally from Corleone and settled in Rome in 1736, masterfully captures the relationship between the monumentality, now decadent, of the classic appearance of the city and the city in its architectural becoming, in its modernity. The text of the first volume is by Giuseppe Bianchini, the second by Orazio Orlandi, the remaining volumes are the work of Vasi himself.
