A brief letter from Garibaldi sent from Caprera on April 30, 18 [..] and addressed to dear [Gaspare] Trecchi, with whom he shared the national ideals, 210 x 135 mm., Tears and shortcomings. A short letter from Nino Bixio from 1860 is joined in the lot, where he regrets not having been able to follow the military operations because he was wounded in the leg; a strip of the Austrian flag removed from the Trecchi "at the moment of surrender after a live bombardment".

Specialist Notes

This is the Marquis Gaspare Trecchi, the recipient of Garibaldi's letter, who hosted the Hero of the Two Worlds in his noble palace. N n 1859 he earned the Tre Ponti a silver medal as captain of the Guides and aide-de-camp to Garibaldi who, with the rank of major, followed in the enterprise of the Thousand. Lieutenant colonel of cavalry and officer of order of the king, in '66 he returned with the Garibaldi volunteers and at Monte Suello he obtained a third silver medal. Then he rejoined the army with the rank of colonel of cavalry. He was a constant and secret intermediary between Vittorio Emanuele II and Garibaldi.
