Intrepid Swedish explorer and geologist and mineralogist Adolf Erik Nils Klaus Waldemar Freiherr von Nordenskiöld (Helsinki 1832 - Dalbjö, Lund, 1901) led numerous expeditions to the Svalbard Islands and along the northern coast of Siberia. On board the Vega ship he accomplished the renowned feat, never attempted by anyone, of navigating the so-called Northeast Passage between the Atlantic and North Pacific oceans, turning Asia from the North. & Nbsp; A short distance from the Bering Strait, the Vega stopped due to the ice and resumed navigation only after the long winter when, finally free, it entered the Pacific, circled Asia up to the Suez Canal and returned home triumphantly
