Specialist Notes

Giovanni Girolamo Arconati Lamberti, who died in Nyon in 1733, was a character out of the ordinary and with adventurous behavior: writer of anti-Catholic pamphlets, accused of murders, secret agent of Spain and double agent spy with France, but also diplomat and historical of the century. XVII. Convicted and imprisoned by the court of the Inquisition of Chambery for the publication of the scandalous libellus on Cardinal Portocarrero and his loves, he managed to escape. He composed anonymous works considered to be written by other authors, falsifying the city of publication and the name of the printer. Even "The key to the cabinet [...]" actually published in Geneva bears the false location of Cologne and the name of Giuseppe Francesco Borri. The book collects ten scientific letters turned out to be false elaborated on translations of texts by other authors by Arconati. He obtained the title of Resident of the Landgrave of Hesse Cassel and of the King of Sweden, baron of the Holy Roman Empire.
