V incenzoCoronelli (1650-1718), considered by many to be the most eminent manufacturer of world maps of the time. & nbsp; , became a novice in the Franciscan Order at the age of 15 and trained as a wood engraver . Eventually he became the official cosmographer of the Republic of Venice and wrote more than one hundred works of terrestrial and celestial cosmography in Latin, French and Italian. In his work "Atlante Veneto" he provided the first complete description of the whole world and in 1678 he built a pair of terrestrial and celestial globes for the Duke of Palma. His international reputation for building globes was created when he was commissioned by Louis XIV to produce a massive pair of 3.85 meter diameter globes known as "Marley Globes", which were widely admired by the court of Versailles. work "Atlante Veneto" provided the first complete description of the whole world and in 1678 he built a pair of terrestrial and celestial globes for the Duke of Palma. In 1684 Vincenzo founded the Accademia degli Argonauti, which was based in the convent of the Frari in Venice and was involved in the study of navigation and the construction of the globe. Vincenzo continued his hydraulics experiments including a water pumping system for extinguishing fires and in 1699 Pope Innocent XII commissioned him to collaborate in the construction of a new port in Anzio. In 1717 he was invited by Emperor Charles VI to study the problems of flooding the Danube and its system of canals and locks was so successful that his projects were used to control flooding in other areas of the Austrian Empire.
