London, Thomas Mc. Lean, 1819. In the 2nd oblong. Figured front door, title card, dedication sheet to King George III, list of tables in English and French, 40 hand-colored aquatints after Williamson and Howitt, each with title in two languages, first folded cards, pl. I, III, VIII, XXIX, XXXII, XL and pp. 1,9, 83 and second index page with reinforcements, some light stains, brown half leather binding on the smooth spine, red leather insert with title and decorations embossed in gold, slight lacks.

Specialist Notes

One of the most fascinating works on Indian sports. Second edition, the first was printed between 1807 and 1808. Accurate and detailed description of the wild sports of the East presented in a fictional and interesting way, it deals with the natural history of the elephant, the rhinoceros, the tiger, the leopard, the 'bear and many others; the different games with game, fish, snakes are illustrated, all interspersed with original, authentic and curious anecdotes, taken from the manuscript and drawings of Captain Thomas Williamson, who was stationed in Bengal for twenty years. The drawings are by Samuel Howett (1756-1822) and engravings by the best artists. & Nbsp; & nbsp;
