Specialist Notes

First rare printed edition of the statutes of Padua. & nbsp; Leonardo Achates (Leonardo da Basel) was a cultured Swiss prototypographer who in Italy, from 1472 to 1497, printed many books of high cultural level , sometimes reproducing editions of others, but also giving beautiful original editions. About forty editions are known, with or without his name. He worked mainly in Vicenza, Padua and Sant’Orso; in Vicenza, which was a culturally alive environment, and where he introduced the press, he signed about twenty-five editions from 1474 to 1491.
