Il Convito was an Italian literary magazine founded in Rome by Adolfo De Bosis, a cultured businessman as well as a poet, by Gabriele D'Annunzio and by Angelo Conti, an art critic as well as an essayist. The periodical, which stands out for its luxurious typographic appearance, came out at irregular intervals from January 1895 to 1907. Il Convito appeared in Rome in 1895 as a magazine of literary criticism and art. The magazine was published on precious handmade paper for a total of 12 issues. In reality it lived as a magazine only for the first nine issues, from January 1895 to December 1896, because the subsequent issues, containing only writings by De Bosis, must be considered to itself. The first nine numbers collaborate with aestheticizing authors of the new and old generation, such as Edoardo Scarfoglio, Enrico Nencioni, Enrico Panzacchi, Giovanni Pascoli and artists who, in the illustrations, opt for enigmatic figures, allegorizing visions, serpentine figures of women-jellyfish thus giving a clear qualification to the magazine, that of a programmatic review of Italian decadence.
