Specialist Notes

Original manuscript of the Italian translation of Racine's Andromaca , commissioned by the Marquis Rangoni of Modena to the Academicians who frequented his court (perhaps even Muratori himself) and represented at Palazzo Ducale on March 15, 1725 by the modenese comedians, including Rangoni himself in the part of Oreste. A performance also celebrated in France, so much so that the newspaper "Il Mercury di Francia" in March 1725 spoke highly of it praising it. & Nbsp;
The Andromache of Racine, translated for the first time in Italian and in free verse by Giovanni Rangoni, his brother Fulvio, Francesco Nicola Frassone and another exponent of the Este court, Gianjacopo Tori. The translation was published anonymously, because the noble amateurs were reluctant to appear with their name on the title page of the printed editions. This manuscript transmits the complete version with the relative corrections, as indicated also in the spine of the volume. & Nbsp;
