Specialist Notes

Brief but very interesting manuscript diary dated 1684, in summary the chronicle of the siege of Buda by the Austrians against the Turks; the diary begins on 14 July 1684 and ends on 12 August of the same year. At the bottom of the booklet, another hand draws up an account of the siege which starts from 11 & nbsp; June & nbsp; until 24 June. The chronicle of the facts diverges at various points with the known and handed down version, suggesting a point of view that cannot have been that of a simple soldier but of a much more authoritative witness. Witness that evidently, in addition to the pen, he was also familiar with the arts of drawing, if it is the same hand that writes the delicate sketches that occupy the different pages of the booklet, outlining single figures, architectural elements, plastic groups and hinted at landscapes. All to be explored, on the double historical and iconographic side.
