Specialist Notes
Sansovino's work is a description of the ancient and modern Italian states (Kingdom of Naples, State of the Church, Republics of Genoa, Lucca and Venice), of the main states of modern Europe, such as France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and Poland, and some Asian (Persia and Turkey) and African (Tunis and Fez) kingdoms. The last chapter deals with the habits, customs, laws and judiciaries of the State of Utopia, translated by Thomas Moore. The author, historian and man of letters, son of the famous sculptor and architect Jacopo, was a printer, polygrapher and translator from Greek and Latin, in this work he was a pioneer in the field of statistics.
