Specialist Notes

We report the card of Giovanna Ginex on the occasion of the publication of the catalogue raisonné on Longoni: "The painting belongs to the group of small and large canvases executed by Longoni at the Bernina altitude between 1903 and 1905 approximately, both in spring and in midsummer. The canvases that have the thaw as their subject insist on the hard, cold metallic tones of the bluish greys spread in long material brushstrokes of various consistencies, combined with the greens and are enriched by horizontal material filaments in the water of the lakes, here in the foreground. In these paintings nature is the absolute protagonist, cold in the total lack of any human or animal sign, sufficient unto itself in a pure solitude, majestic in its eternal rhythms".
