Pair of Hokai boxes on a four-feet base, lacquered in black and with beautiful Makie-lacquering in gold representing peaches, branches and foliage and with 'Maru-ni-Fukushima-omodaka-mon' also in gold. The innumerable brass mounts are finely engraved with the same mon and decorations. Complete with lid. Hokai boxes always form a pair and are used in Japan to store food for ceremonial occasions. This is a high quality tupe which was used by the Daimyo class and high-ranking Samurai. Very rare.
