Specialist Notes

Cadutaangeli is set in a humid and decadent Venice that is no longer the city of theauthor's childhood, when, to escape the bombing of Milan, he spent the waryears there in a sort of limbo. Everything is wrapped in a nostalgic atmosphereand a feeling of discomfort, also underlined by Valentina's frequent falls intothe water who, as in this page, believes she can still feel the disturbingpresence of the Undergrounds on her body, a symbol of her unconscious fears. inmost of his stories. From a stylistic point of view, the central sequence ofhis faces that change expression in a single vignette should be noted. A sortof "morphing" that Crepax has adopted several times and for which heis rightly known as a master in effectively using a cinematographic techniquein the field of comics.
