Specialist Notes

In makinghis comic version of Pauline Reage's second book, Return to Roissy, Crepaxchanges everything in a much more radical way than it does for the novel andthe film inspired by it. We move from the 1930s of the first Historie d'O, moresuited to representing the metaphor of violent totalitarianism applied to sex,to the modern 1980s, characterized by unbridled capitalism and hedonism as anend in itself. After all, O has also changed a lot, transforming herself fromvictim to dominatrix of a skilled businessman, but full of himself andfundamentally stupid. In this page, where the erotic staging is debased by theintrusive presence of a luxurious sports car, a symbol of sex, wealth andpower, all the critical verve of the author is revealed, who struggled torecognize his city in today's "Milan. to drink". A disillusioned lookat the reality of those years that would have favored his refuge in a graphicand narrative virtuosity, particularly evident in this story.
