Auction details
Advertiser, illustrator, first comic author, Georges Pichard made his debut as a cartoonist in the mid-1950s. His fame, however, is linked to erotic drawing, of which he is a world-celebrated master: initially his signature trait is the carefree sensuality of his female characters, undeniably inspired by the model of the young Brigitte Bardot. The BDSM turn of his works, which from 1977 onwards would take on almost “hard” traits, created quite a few problems for him with French censorship, leading him, however, to create a real new genre with characters that have remained in the collective imagination such as Paulette and Blanche Épiphanie.
With visually extreme plates, which would seem to lead to inevitable female degradation, Pichard was actually erected as a symbol of French feminism of those years, as with his works, he challenged the bourgeois morality and the most vicious machismo of the time.
The auction will be preceded by an exhibition in Rome, to offer collectors a chance to carefully examine all the lots, presented and enhanced by the splendid setting of our exhibition venue.
