Original comic art made by Eisner for "Fagin the Jew", page 110 of this heartbreaking story first published in the US by Doubleday in 2003. Rereading Oliver Twist from Fagin's point of view, Will Eisner shows us in a new light and with unprecedented depth one of the most infamous characters in the history of literature. Eisner proves once again that he is not only a master in the art of comics, but also an acute literary critic and a careful observer of society. Eisner depicts the evil Fagin as a complex and tormented individual, and through his story he represents the life of the Ashkenazi community in 19th-century London: a provocative look at the poverty, prejudice and anti-Semitism of the time, a memorable historical reflection, a narrative through images of rare evocative power. The author's stamp on the back.
