Preliminary drawing for the daily strip of 02/04/1943 for "The Spirit". During the years of the Second World War from 1942 to 1945 Eisner took up service in the United States Army and thus had to abandon his drawing board, the strips of The Spirit were entrusted to ghost artists who continued the work in his absence. The one we have presented is a very rare testimony of how Eisner did not abandon his work even at the front, periodically sending definitive layouts of rare beauty to his overseas collaborators. Note the indications of Eisner himself to one of his ghost artists Lou Fine. Some vertical folds and small holes in the left margin. Signed.
