In 1977 Paolo Monti was commissioned to photograph the Pietà Rondanini conserved in Milan, where it had arrived from Rome since 1953 in the setting created by Studio BBPR (Banfi Berlgioioso Peressutti Rogers) as part of the reorganisation of the Castello Sforzesco Museums. Monti has shot it in a particularly expressive black and white, alternating overall views with those of details, moving the shots from the most diverse positions including those from above, skilfully using light to give the whole a deliberate drama.
