Faced with a landscape such as this one by Albert Steiner, the aesthetics of Caspar David Friedrich's romantic painting come to mind, and it is in fact evident how much the Swiss photographer worked on the contemplative aspect of the subjective shot as well as on emphasising the beauty of the mountain, which he understands as magical. From this point of view, Steiner, with respect to the stylistic characteristic of the landscape of the 1930s, indicates a different path that is also closely linked to the canons of Giovanni Segantini's painting, who not by chance lived in the Engadin. To close the circle, it should be remembered that Segantini himself was a fine photographer, having learnt the principles from his brother Napoleon.
