L'opera recupera la medesima composizione di un dipinto presente nell'Archivio della Fototeca Zeri (scheda n. 42874) che si differenzia da quello offerto nel lotto sia nelle misure che nel supporto (è, infatti, un olio su tavola, cm 50 x 81).
Il dipinto della Fototeca è classificato come Domenico Campagnola, per quanto presenti una controversa storia attributiva, da ricondurre a due passaggi in asta avvenuti nel corso del secolo scorso: più precisamente da Christie's, 5 maggio 1911 con un'attribuzione a Giorgione, mentre Sotheby's, 11 luglio 1979 con riferimento a Domenico Caprioli.
