Questa Pietà presenta un'iconografia piuttosto insolita, a causa della presenza delle due sante sulla destra, che potrebbero essere identificate una con Maddalena, per l'attributo del vasetto di unguento, e l'altra con la sorella Marta o con Maria di Cleofa.
Le due figure femminili indossano abiti suntuosi e raffinati e i volti, per le sembianze molto peculiari, sembrerebbero dei veri e propri ritratti, probabilmente di due nobildonne omonime delle sante e committenti dell'opera, come farebbe supporre anche il loro sguardo, rivolto verso lo spettatore.
