Information
Nikel-plated metal and thick mirrored glass.
Luigi Fontana Manufacture.
Probable provenance: Gio Ponti’s residence Via Randaccio.
However, these latter lamps are made of golden metal, bear the effigy of the sun and have a torch as a lamp holder. This could be a reference to one of the four primordial elements, the Fire, in the Ponti’s symbolism. The pair of appliques in the catalogue, however, represent the element of Water and for this reason it is made of nickel-plated metal, on the top it has a fountain and, all around, the frame is a wavy edge which recalls the flow of water, as well as the lamp holders, which resemble two jets. The collector who has kept these lamps for years also claims that the mirrors change shade during the day, just as iridescent water changes its color depending on the time you look at it.We find in these wall lamps Gio Ponti's celebration of nature, his constant source of inspiration.
