Provenance
The Audi RS2 debuted in 1993 and for a couple of years it was the fastest and mass-produced station wagon in the world. The car was the fruit of a collaboration between Porsche and Audi, starting with the Audi 80 Avant, with a 2.2-liter 5-cylinder engine. Porsche technicians managed to bring the power of the engine to 315 hp, allowing the RS2 to leap from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and touch 262 km/h. The braking system was also revised, with four-piston calipers and ventilated discs. The only mechanical component that was not modified was the traction, keeping the famous "quattro" integral system to manage the torque; the gearbox was a six-speed manual Porsche 968 derivation. Aesthetically, the RS2 is characterized by the front shield with large air intakes, for cooling the engine and brakes; at the rear we find the red connecting strip between the headlights, a tribute to Porsche design, as are the "cup" side mirrors. Inside, the main features include the three-spoke steering wheel and Recaro sports seats in leather, white instrumentation with a full scale of the speedometer at 300 km/h and the three additional pressure gauges; for the finishes you could choose between burr or carbon. The vehicles for the Italian market were equipped with driver and passenger airbags. Initially 2,200 cars were produced, but due to demand, the total number of vehicles produced then settled at 2,891. The model was replaced in 1997 by the Audi RS4, with a 2.7-liter twin-turbo 380 hp engine.
The car
The Audi RS2, chassis no.WACZZZ8CZSZ001004 was built in 1995 and comes from the cars chosen for the Saottini Collection. It has just over 154,000 km on the odometer and, prior to entering the collection, had only one owner. It features black leather interiors and carbon details. The car comes with its original service booklet with all the servicing performed by Porsche and Audi workshops, the official guarantee of the Pioneer Hi-Fi system and there are some invoices for the work carried out, including the repair of the air conditioning system.
