Round, rifled, 50 cal. barrel, with foresight and adjustable rear sight, marked at the base with Lawrence's patent of 1859, front with Sharps address, at the base "NEW MODEL 1865". Iron frame with Sharp's mark of 1852 and Lawrence's patent of 1859, the counter-plate with Sharp's patent of 1848. Bolt with operating lever. Working mechanism. Smooth wooden butt and fore-end; the counter-plate featuring a saddle bar with ring; iron butt plate. Tang with serial number "C, 45xxx". Very rare, about 40,000 examples of the New Model 1863 were made, whereas only 5000 of the New Model 1865.
