Information

dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Papal States, Straight single-and-false-edged blade with central fuller and tang. On almost the entire length finely engraved and gilt on a blue background and matt with trophies (some with tiaras!), floral motifs and motto 'Viva Italia' on one side and 'Viva Pio IX' on the other side. The base signed 'Wester & Co' and 'Solingen.' Gilt brass hilt with guard decorated with floral motifs in bas-relief, long cap shaped as a lion's head, horn grip (small lacking parts) with coils, with metal wire binding. Iron scabbard with two lugs and gilt brass mounts. Very rare, especially for the decoration of the blade. length 100.5 cm.
