Information

dating: 1859 - 1874 provenance: France, Rifled, cylindrical, 11 mm cal. barrel, with foresight, bearing at the back remains of the marking 'INV.ON E LEFAUCHUX BR.TE PARIS'. Clean bore, visible rifling. Six-shot cylinder. A few pitting on the left side. Serial number 'LF 18xxx'. Remains of marking on the left side. Wooden grips. Working mechanics. Trigger guard with finger support, butt-plate featuring sides with fullers. In 1861 the Italian forces command began to contrive a revolver for 'Carabinieri' as a replacement for the flintlock pistols; the revolver was based on the Lefaucheux one, to whom it would also be commissioned; in the meantime, 3000 normal-barreled (long) and 5000 short-barreled revolvers were purchased by the company. Generally, the first batch of orders is assumed to have had serial numbers between 19000 and 31000. The model presented here is slightly inferior; however, it must be noted that Italian officers often purchased these revolvers privately. See 'Pistole Militari Italiane' by L. Salvatici pp. 88-91 and 'Les Revolvers a Broche' by J.O Bastié, pp. 48-49. For a similar specimen see photo on p. 91 of Salvatici's volume. length 29,5 cm.
